Norman, Okla. Georgia Tech's Christo Lamprecht was named Thursday as one of five finalists for the Workday-sponsored NCAA Division I Jack Nicklaus Player of the Year Award for 2024. This marks the third time the Yellow Jacket senior has been named a finalist.
He joins Florida State's Luke Clanton, North Florida's Nick Gabrelsik, Auburn's Jackson Koiven and Stanford's Michael Thorbjornsen. The winners will be presented with an award by Nicklaus and Workday and announced by Nicklaus at its annual anniversary press conference on Tuesday, June 4.
The senior player from George, South Africa, has already been named the 2024 Byron Nelson Award recipient. The award is presented to the top senior golfer in the country based on four years of accomplishments on the golf course, academic achievements and contributions to the community. Lamprecht, the 2024 ACC Player of the Year, is also a finalist for the Ben Hogan Award, which was presented to Koven on Monday, and a finalist for the Fred Haskins Award, which will be announced Monday.
In college, Lamprecht won the OFC/Fighting Illini Invitational, was a co-medalist at this year's Ben Hogan College Invitational, and finished in the top 10 overall six times. Additionally, Lamprecht placed second at the Water Sound Invitational and tied for third at this spring's ACC Championship. Overall, his average stroke is his 69.13, which challenges the all-time Tech record for a single year.

Lamprecht ranks first in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, second in the PGA Tour College Rankings and fifth in the Scoreboard National College Golf Ranking System. He won the 2023 Amateur Championship and won the silver medal at the 151st British Open Championship (T-74) as the lowest ranked amateur. The South African competed in the 2024 Masters Tournament, was an international team member for the 2023 Arnold Palmer Cup, and also competed in the 2023 World Amateur Team Championship, finishing eighth.
To date, three Georgia Tech golfers have won the Jack Nicklaus Award. david duvall (1993), stewart sink (1995) and bryce mulder (1998 and 2001).
All five finalists will compete in the 2024 NCAA Championships, starting this week at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
Nicklaus, a Big Ten and NCAA champion at Ohio State University, helped create the Jack Nicklaus Award in 1988. This award is currently given to NCAA Division I, II, III, and his NAIA and NAIA Athlete of the Year. N.J.C.A.A.
