AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott recognizes the invaluable contributions of the state's travel and tourism industry and the passionate Texans who work in this field by declaring May 19-25 as Texas Travel and Tourism Week. He invited all Texans to celebrate.
“Texas is a premier travel destination in all of America, with more than 250,000 square miles of unforgettable experiences,” said Governor Abbott. “Texas truly has something for everyone. Not only does the travel and tourism industry share the beauty of Texas with people around the world, but this industry is paramount to the Texas economy. It's what makes Texas legendary. Today we encourage Texans and non-Texans to visit TravelTexas.com and plan their next vacation right here in the Lone Star State. ”
In 2023, more than 56 million travelers visited Texas from across the country and around the world, and more than 66 million Texan travelers visited destinations in the state on overnight trips. The travel and tourism industry is a vital contributor to the Texas economy, generating $193.8 billion in economic impact, supporting 1.3 million Texas jobs and $72.9 billion in revenue. Travel and tourism also generated more than $9 billion in state and local taxes, supporting public sector jobs such as firefighters, police officers and teachers.
Travel Texas, within the Governor's Office of Economic Development and Tourism, is responsible for promoting Texas as a premier travel destination for domestic and international tourists alike. Travel Texas works diligently with convention bureaus, tourism bureaus, local chambers of commerce, and private travel organizations and associations to showcase the rich culture, history, and scenery that Texas has to offer.
