Today, the finalists for the next round of the World Video Game Hall of Fame were announced and include Metroid and several other titles.
There will be a total of 12 finalists. Other than Metroid, potential candidates include Asteroids, Elite, Guitar Hero, Metroid, Myst, Neopets, Resident Evil, SimCity, Tokimeki Memorial, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Ultima, and You Don't Know Jack.
Fans who want their voices heard can vote for their favorite finalists from March 14th to March 21st. here As part of the “Player's Choice” voting. The three games with the most public votes will form one ballot and join other ballots submitted by members of the International Selection Advisory Committee. This group is comprised of journalists and academics who are knowledgeable about the history of video games and their role in society.
The World Video Game Hall of Fame says it recognizes games based on: This game has a long lifespan and is not just a passing fad, but a timeless favorite. In terms of geographical scope, the game meets the above criteria across national borders. This game has had a significant impact on the design and development of other games, other forms of entertainment, or popular culture and society in general. ”
Finalists for the 2024 World Video Game Hall of Fame class will be announced at a ceremony on May 9th at the World Video Game Hall of Fame's new home (part of the ESL Digital World exhibit at Strong). The celebration begins at 10 p.m. 3.30am.
