Skyscanner has launched an app-specific Savvy Search tool powered by Open AI's Chat GPT technology to give travelers an easy way to plan their trips.
Currently available in Australia, Canada, India, Singapore, UK, and US, travelers can simply tell Savvy Search what kind of trip they're thinking about, and the app will answer the most common questions, such as “cheap travel.” It will find the best spot for you. From “European city vacation in October” to more specific ones such as “His 30th birthday trip with fun nightlife and great food scene.” The tool generates up to three carefully selected destination recommendations.
After extensive traveler testing, images and detailed destination descriptions are combined to highlight the unique characteristics of each recommendation. Once they have decided on a destination, travelers can go directly to Skyscanner's flight search funnel to compare prices and choose the flight that suits them best.
Piero Sierra, Chief Product Officer at Skyscanner, commented: “Globally, 44% of travelers use AI to plan and research their trips, but usage varies widely by market. For example, 23% of travelers in Singapore already use AI on their mobile phones. However, only 8% of people in the UK do so.
“The next logical step is to use the AI technology we have today to help these travelers in the itinerary discovery phase of their travel planning.”
To celebrate the release of the Savvy Search tool, Skyscanner took a deep dive into the usage data we collected during its beta phase and revealed some of our favorite queries of all time.
These include “places where you can get lost and forget all of life's troubles,” with recommendations such as Santorini, Greece. “Birthday trip with fun nightlife and great foodie scene'' gives an idea of a destination like New York, USA. “A warm holiday where you can skateboard” suggests Barcelona, Spain, which is fast becoming a destination for skateboarders, with its vibrant skateparks and diverse street skating scene. It also includes astrophotography highlights, including a trip to Norway to witness the Northern Lights.
