(ABC 6 News) – At its meeting Tuesday, the Rochester Charter Commission spoke about the use of artificial intelligence in government.
In today's world, the use of AI is becoming more prevalent. People use it for different purposes. From drafting emails to reporting missed meetings.
There are also growing concerns that some government officials may use it for policymaking and decision-making.
This is a major point of discussion, with some believing that such uses of AI need to be limited.
Valmik Patel, a committee member and senior network engineer at Mayo, led the discussion.
Speaking about the issue of authorities using AI in decision-making, he said: And if it's powered by artificial intelligence, there needs to be transparency and accountability for it. ”
But other members of the committee seemed more skeptical, arguing that the problem would be difficult to control and police.
Eventually, the issue was tabled at the end of the meeting.
