Richmond, Virginia — Bowie State University's Dr. Jolisa Williams was named the 2023-24 John Hawley Sports Information Director of the Year by the Central Collegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) during Tuesday's CIAA Spring Administrators Awards Gala It was. This is Dr. Williams' third time receiving this honor and her first at Bowie State University. Her predecessor, Greg Goings, won the award in 2008-2009.
The SID of the Year award is named after veteran public relations and sports information professional John Hawley. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Hawley directed the public relations, publications and sports information program at Albany State University in Georgia for his 14 years. He also held public relations positions at Morgan State University, Mansfield (Pennsylvania) University, and Lincoln (Missouri) University. Hawley also served as sports information director at Norfolk State University and Morehead (Ky.) State University.

Dr. Williams, a native of Charles City, Virginia, is completing his first year as CIAA Northern Region Vice President after serving as CIAA Sports Information Directors Association (SIDA) President. In addition to his leadership of the Association and Management Council, Dr. Williams has done a great job with the Bowie State Athletic Conference in 2023-24 and has continued to do so since arriving in 2021. Now in his third year at BSU, Dr. Williams consistently drives all activities. Frequent viewing of 13 varsity sports teams. Dr. Williams graduated magna cum laude from St. Augustine’s College in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management. A four-year letterwinner for the Lady Falcons women's basketball team, Williams was the starting point guard and helped the Lady Falcons win the 2009-10 CIAA West Regional Championship, and had the highest GPA on any CIAA team in women's basketball during her tenure. He won the award three times. Dr. Williams earned a master's degree in sports management from Virginia State University in 2014 and a doctorate degree in athletic management from Northcentral University in 2022.
Dr. Williams holds memberships in Women in Leadership, Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Black Collegiate Sports Information Directors Association (BC-SIDA), and was most recently named to the prestigious Dr. Charles Whitcomb NCAA Leadership Institute in 2023.
