BROOKSVILLE, Miss. (WJTV) – Mississippi State University (MSU) will host a research station 1 on June 5 for wax crop growers who want to learn more about high-speed planting and advanced planting techniques. We will be holding a field day.
MSU Extension Service and the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Experiment Station will conduct field days and training in advanced planting techniques at the MAFES Blackbelt Experiment Station in Brooksville.
Organizers say producers will be able to see first-hand advanced planting equipment and fields planted with advanced planters in a variety of configurations. Strip plots of fast-planted corn, soybeans, and cotton will be demonstrated, as well as a residue management system with fast-planted cover crops.
Additional topics include speed planter modifications for high-residue systems, dynamic downforce components, planter maintenance and calibration, and the pros and cons of advanced planting techniques. MSU expansion experts and industry leaders will be on hand to speak with growers.
The field day will also offer three Certified Crop Advisor continuing education units on crop management.
The Black Belt Experimental Station is located at 2315 US Highway 45 in Brooksville. The free event begins at 9 a.m. and includes lunch.
