Of the 3.5 million expected travelers, 2.9 million will travel by car, 371,000 by plane and 237,000 by other means such as buses, trains and cruise ships. .
Nationwide, 43.8 million people are expected to travel for the holiday, an increase of 4.1% from last year and 2.4% from 2019.
The Auto Club has set the Memorial Day travel period to be Thursday through Monday, May 23-27.
Top destinations for Southern California travelers are expected to be Las Vegas, San Diego, Grand Canyon, Hawaii and Seattle/Alaska cruises. Top destinations for national travelers will be Orlando, New York, Las Vegas, Seattle, and Anaheim/Los Angeles. Popular international destinations for U.S. travelers will be Rome, Vancouver, London, Paris, and Dublin.
