An event that brings together engineers and their work from the banking technology field.
M&T Tech hosted a growth conference last week where the company's technologists showcased what they've accomplished and come together to collaborate.
More than 1,000 people accepted invitations to the third annual 71Tech conference to showcase technology solutions being developed within M&T's Tech Hub. The conference will contribute to Buffalo's growing but small tech scene.
The conference brings together M&T's business partners, but also allows employees across M&T's technology fields to connect and share their work. And the event has grown bigger year by year. Approximately 500 people gathered in the first year.
“From an M&T Tech perspective, this is about what technology means to Buffalo and how we disseminate it to the community, not just in this building and this forum. “We feel like we're making a bold statement about how we can continue to support the growth of technology,” said Josh Bond, director of engineering at M&T Bank.

At the conference, M&T will build within three tech hubs: Seneca One and Lafayette Court along the Main Street Innovation Corridor in downtown Buffalo, and Wilmington Plaza in downtown Wilmington, Delaware. He emphasized collaboration. The bank launched a tech hub on Lafayette Court. Founded in Buffalo last year, he currently employs 2,029 people in the technology sector.
The conference touched on the latest trends that are transforming the regional industry and banking sector. In between the conference's seminars, booths were set up in the Seneca One lobby and interactive sessions were held where technicians showed off their work. Other sessions provided insights into the industry and the intersection of technology and banking.
71Tech also implemented a community engagement initiative in which employee volunteers made reusable shopping bags from recycled T-shirts and donated them to Providence Farm Collective and West Side Community Services.
The event was also part of M&T Bank's Western New York Community Impact Week, in which more than 1,000 employees volunteer to serve the community throughout the spring.
