BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Ascension Healthcare Network provided an update following last week's national cybersecurity event.
The following release was sent by Ascension St. Vincent's Communications Office.
Ascension previously reported that it had suffered a ransomware attack that disrupted patient care within its network. Our priority remains providing safe patient care. Ascension, with the assistance of leading cybersecurity experts, worked around the clock over the weekend to respond to a ransomware incident that affected our systems. Our focus is on safely restoring your system. We are making good progress, but it will take time to return to normal operations. Once our systems and services are back online, we will share updates on them so our patients and communities can plan accordingly. We have established a dedicated website to share the latest Alabama information across the system.
All Ascension St. Vincent hospitals, clinics and care facilities in Alabama are open and operational, according to the website.
Patients may experience longer than usual wait times or delays as clinics transition to a manual system for documentation. Patients are encouraged to bring notes about their symptoms and a list of their current medications, including prescription numbers and bottles, to their appointment.
Some Ascension Rx retail pharmacies in Alabama are closed. Staff will work with patients to find alternatives to fulfill at another pharmacy.
