Santa Paula, California – Santa Paula High School teacher Megan Hernandez had the opportunity to travel to Poland this summer on behalf of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial Foundation.

We are pleased to announce that Megan Hernandez, one of Santa Paula High School's outstanding teachers, has been selected for the esteemed Auschwitz Heritage Fellowship by the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial Foundation. In just his second year as Advanced Placement's European History teacher, Hernandez has made a significant impact on the academic success and personal growth of his students.
Megan teaches several 10th grade World History classes and one 9th grade AVID class, helping students pursue academic excellence. She is a beloved member of the faculty at Santa Paula High School, where she leads the AVID club and serves as the sophomore class advisor. Her dedication and passion for education is evident in all her roles on campus.
This year, the Auschwitz Heritage Fellowship has selected 32 educators from across the United States. This prestigious program recognizes Megan's outstanding work in educating Santa Paula High School students about World War II-era Europe. Her commitment to helping her students understand the complexity of history and its impact on the present and future led her to participate in this unique fellowship.
Through the program, Megan is taking classes on the Holocaust and plans to travel to Poland this summer to visit Krakow, Warsaw, and Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camps. This immersive experience deepens your understanding of the Holocaust and its atrocities and provides deeper insights to share with your students.
Megan's participation in the Fellowship will enrich her teaching and allow her to provide Santa Paula High School students with a deep understanding of the personal experiences of those exposed to the horrors of the Nazi Holocaust. . Her ability to convey the importance of history in the lives of her students will undoubtedly foster greater empathy and awareness within the school community.
