May 7th marks one year before the federal deadline for domestic air travelers to obtain federally compliant identification cards.
If you plan to use your driver's license or state-issued ID card for travel beyond that date, it's a good idea to make an appointment now at the Arizona Department of Transportation's Bureau of Motor Vehicles office to obtain your Arizona Travel ID .
Starting May 7, 2025, standard Arizona driver's licenses and ID cards will no longer be accepted at TSA checkpoints without an Arizona travel ID or a federally compliant ID, such as a valid U.S. passport. , you risk missing your flight. .
A gold star in the upper right corner of an Arizona travel ID indicates that the owner meets federal standards that require additional documentation. Also:
- ID: Birth certificate or US passport
- Social Security Number: Just the number, not the card
- Two documents proving Arizona residency (such as a rent or bank statement, credit card or cell phone bill showing a current address in Arizona).
Although you can visit our office in person for this service, we recommend making an appointment online at azmvdnow.gov. The Arizona Travel ID costs $25 and is valid for eight years.
