Game developer Mob Entertainment is teaming up with Legendary Entertainment to produce a movie based on the toy factory horror hit Poppy Playtime.
Legendary is developing the video game-to-movie adaptation with producers Don Murphy and Susan Montford of Angry Films. Details such as the plot and cast have not yet been revealed. The release date has not been confirmed.
Poppy Playtime revolves around Playtime, a once-great toy manufacturer that falls from grace when everyone in the factory disappears. Players control a former employee who has been sucked into the factory long after his disappearance, but it doesn't take long for him to realize that the toys are more playful this time around.
Poppy Playtime released the first free-to-play chapter in 2021, with two more chapters added to the story in 2022 and 2024. According to Mob, its horror-puzzle gameplay, lore, and twists have allowed him to attract over 40 million players.It's available on PC, mobile, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation devices, as well as Roblox. It became so popular that some characters, like Huggy Waggy and the Smiling Critters, appeared in retail stores in the form of collectible figures, stuffed animals, and costumes.

We are excited to create something that will touch the hearts of tens of millions of people around the world,” Mob co-founders CEO Zack Belanger and CCO Seth Belanger said in a joint statement. “This film deal is the next logical step in the growth of our transmedia entertainment company.”
