Bob Ackerman, managing director of AllegisCyber, said advances in artificial intelligence have “redefined what's important in cybersecurity.” AI can help strengthen defense mechanisms and help analysts distinguish relevant data from background noise, thereby increasing productivity. At the same time, it has also enabled cyberattacks to become faster and more sophisticated.

Ackerman highlighted the challenges of phishing attacks, which are becoming more personalized and difficult to detect, and breaches, which attackers can navigate and significantly reduce dwell time with AI-powered strategies.
“If you look at the nature of cybersecurity, there is attack and defense. Almost all innovations in cybersecurity come from the attackers, who are very capable from a technical standpoint, sometimes better motivated, and constrained in their actions.” “No,” he said. “I think they will guide us in defining new threat vectors that we will be dealing with from a defensive perspective.”
In a video interview with Information Security Media Group at RSA Conference 2024, Ackerman also said:
- How AI enables more personalized and harder-to-detect cyberattacks.
- How data integration can help more accurately assess cyber threats.
- Why regulators and insurers demand more detailed cyber data.
Mr. Ackerman has 20 years of successful cybersecurity investment experience and serves on the boards of numerous cybersecurity companies. He was president and CEO of his UniSoft Systems and founder and chairman of InfoGear Technology Corp.
