DreamWorks, Story Kitchen Partners to develop video game film adaptation
By Movieguide® Contributor
Story Kitchen is partnering with DreamWorks Animation on upcoming projects, giving it a first-look option for movies based on video games produced by the studio.
Story Kitchen said in a statement regarding the deal: “We are very excited to be working with DreamWorks Animation as our first official film partner since SK's launch in 2022.”
According to its website, Story Kitchen is a “dynamic media company with a passion for world-building and franchise architecture. We specialize in adapting video games and other 'non-traditional' IP into film/TV.” ”
The studio has previously produced the popular Sonic the Hedgehog movie and the animated version of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider for Netflix. Part of his review of SONIC THE HEDGEHOG on Movieguide® goes like this:
Sonic the Hedgehog is a funny, funny, and heartwarming family comedy. The film has a strong moral worldview that emphasizes friendship, protecting others, and going out of your way to help a friend in need. The film also celebrates the commitment of marriage and working through the turmoil of the seasons with your spouse. Humanist and narcissistic villains rely heavily on science, using their technological achievements to massage their egos by thinking they are better than everyone else. Sonic the Hedgehog is a fun and uplifting family movie.
“No word yet on what DreamWorks will adapt, but some believe there will be an announcement in the near future,” Pirates & Princess reported.
It's no surprise that DreamWorks is looking to expand its video game adaptations. This genre is mostly popular both on TV and in movies and among people of all ages.
Last year's “Super Mario Bros.” MOVIE grossed more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office, making it the highest-grossing film ever released based on a video game, just one week after its release.
Movieguide® previously reported:
Super Mario Bros. MOVIE broke international box office records in Japan. The film contains a strong moral and Biblical worldview and will appeal to children and adults alike.
The film was released in Japan on April 28th and reached $71 million at the box office just 31 days later. This was the fastest produced non-Japanese animation for the Japanese market.
The film currently ranks as the third highest grossing animated film of all time worldwide. “Super Mario Bros. Movie'' is placed after “Frozen'' and “Frozen II.''
