Phoenix (AZ Family) — It's starting to heat up in the Valley, and the great weather brings thousands of travelers looking to enjoy (or escape) the hot Arizona sun.
Following record numbers at Phoenix Sky Harbor in 2023, American Airlines said it is ready to give travelers a seamless experience at the airport this summer.
The airline expects to serve nearly 3 million customers with more than 26,000 flights at Sky Harbor from May 17 to September 3.
“We've invested in our team members and we've invested seriously in our technology and tools, so we believe their experience will be more seamless and enjoyable,” American Airlines Vice President of Phoenix Hub Operations said Sophia Phyllis Ortiz.
American Airlines says it has hired and trained team members and helped vendors prepare aircraft, aircraft and equipment to prepare for the summer influx of travelers.
The company has also committed to further investing in technology, including analytical tools that help reduce maintenance delays, find ways to cool aircraft, and reduce delays on planes for travelers.
“We have done a lot of work to ensure that when irregular operations occur, we can move forward with minimal delays and recover faster,” said Phyllis Ortiz. states.
These adjustments come as America's friendliest airport had its busiest year in 2023. Approximately 48 million people passed through Sky Harbor's doors last year, a 10% increase over 2022.
New destinations have been added to Sky Harbor, including direct flights to Paris. American also added more destinations from Phoenix, including Tijuana, Mexico, Provo, Utah, and Pasco, Washington.
American Airlines expects its busiest day in Phoenix to be July 7, with 239 flights taking off from Sky Harbor.
