On Sunday, Tom Brady was as hot as he was standing behind the offensive line for his junior varsity team against the 1985 Chicago Bears. Netflix's “Roast of Tom Brady” is a hit, and it got us thinking about other famous athletes to roast.
The Brady Roast has produced stars from a variety of industries. Actor and comedian Kevin Hart served as host of the event. Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick and former receiver Julian Edelman were also in attendance. Even Kim Kardashian took the stage, and veteran roast comedians like Nikki Glazer and Jeff Ross were there to provide some real flamethrowing from the podium.
When searching for our next list of roasties, we tried to find people who are true legends of the sport. Of course, it also lends itself to entertainment value if the person hasn't avoided some controversy over the years.
The success of the Brady event probably means more similar events will occur in the future. So, from his GOAT in the NBA to his NFL owners, here's a list of sports luminaries who would be perfect targets.
Michael Jordan
If Tom Brady can get roasted, no matter how many rings he has, no one else is off limits. So let's put Michael Jordan himself in the hot seat. Bringing out some of Jordan's biggest rivals from the hardwood era. Isiah Thomas, Patrick Ewing and Larry Bird could also take the stage. The roast could also feature Jordan's former Chicago Bulls teammates, such as Scottie Pippen. Who may still have things to work out with MJ. And don't forget about Steve Kerr. He probably has pent-up resentment from getting punched in the face.
Current players, along with LeBron James, may also be included as part of the “Cheers to Michael Jordan'' event. The debate over the NBA's GOAT could become an ongoing thread, and with James being targeted as Jordan's next target, they could turn this into a two-night event. That could finally settle the Jordan-LeBron debate.
charles barley
Even in the NBA, there are few basketball figures with more opinions than Barkley. Tune in to “NBA on TNT” to watch Barkley roast players and their co-hosts alike. This guy just sent the New Orleans Pelicans to Galveston, Texas, instead of Cancun, for their season-ending vacation. Obviously, Shaquille O'Neal and Kenny Smith are going to have to attend the event, and Ernie Johnson has been sitting next to Round Mound of Rebound for years, so there's a few jokes in his back pocket. must have. It would also be a good idea to have the NBA players that Barkley called out on TV fight back, but the stage is so large that the roast probably needs a time limit.
tiger woods
Tiger Woods, the greatest golfer in history, did it under the microscope for the wrong reasons. The best roast targets are controversial legends, and Woods fits the bill perfectly. The 15-time major champion is an icon in American sports, but he has also had a public fall from grace. A roast would allow Woods to let it all out, allowing comedians and fellow athletes to take turns slamming him for his escapades off the course. As for the guests, the stage will be as star-studded as any on the list. Phil Mickelson and John Daly will make the evening interesting, and perhaps golf enthusiast Michael Jordan may also make an appearance.
jerry jones
When you think of the most fascinating people in football, Jerry Jones has to be at or near the top of the list. Jones, the owner of the NFL's most polarizing franchise, tends to express his opinions fairly freely. That can cause friction with players and coaches alike. Just ask Jimmie Johnson. Just inducted into the Cowboys' Ring of Honor Last December marked 30 years since he led his team to back-to-back Super Bowls. Jones is no stranger to off-the-field controversy either, so there will be plenty of fodder for jokes there as well. Obviously, Johnson needs to be part of the cast, and other former Cowboys like Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman, Tony Romo, and Deion Sanders could also be involved.
Alex Rodriguez
A-Rod is used to receiving hate. He experienced it throughout his entire 22-season MLB career. His vitriol increased even more in 2004 when Rodriguez signed with the New York Yankees and became part of the Evil Empire. Being the Yankees' high-paid star player is enough to garner heat on its own, but Rodriguez has had his share of controversy beyond the diamond. Most notably, Rodriguez was embroiled in the Biogenesis PED scandal, missing the entire 2014 season due to a suspension and appeals process. The depth of potential roster spots is pretty deep and could include everyone from Derek Jeter to Ryan Dempster. Already had a few shots against Rodriguez in 2013. If they held it at Fenway Park, they might be able to sell out an entire weekend's worth of shows.
brad marchand
In every NHL game, players yell at each other between the whistles. One of his more prolific trolls is Marchand, who, in addition to being an actual All-Star, is also an All-Star pest. Marchand was known for causing a lot of trouble on the ice, sometimes crossing the line and frequenting the penalty box. That said, his smart cracking extends far beyond his 200×85 ice surface. Marchand has taken numerous shots on social media, and once took on the entire Carolina Hurricanes. The other 31 teams also have players who would love the chance to attack Marchand, and there is no doubt he would appreciate the chance to do the same for them.
conor mcgregor
It's probably fair to consider this the most unstable roaster on the list, and perhaps it's only suitable for more dramatic television. McGregor is used to giving and receiving blows in the Octagon, but he now has the opportunity to engage in verbal sparring on stage. McGregor, of course, has plenty of experience cutting promos on his opponents. If you want to spend a few hours watching some of his best work in the field, head over to YouTube. My only concern with this roast is that Proper No. 12 and testosterone will be flowing and things will get a little physical on stage.Maybe the organizer Khabib Nurmagomedov should not be invited Become a roaster.
Brett Favre
If you're looking for another legendary quarterback, Brett Favre probably fits the bill. Not only is Favre one of the greatest gunslingers in NFL history, but he has an extensive list of materials for the guest of honor to tackle the subject. Favre's dramatic breakup with the Green Bay Packers and short stints with the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings would be a good place to start. From there, attention will turn to Favre's less flattering off-field antics, and something tells me Volleyball may be mentioned once or twice.. I would love for Aaron Rodgers to be on that stage as well.
Kim Mulkey
LSU's head coach is known for his on-court intensity, flashy clothing, Media filter is missing. It's the perfect recipe for a roast, and Mulkey has garnered a lot of attention from fans and haters alike in recent years as women's basketball continues to soar in popularity. Some of Mulkey's former players, including Angel Rees, could be involved, but the list doesn't end there. Take rival coaches from other programs around the country, such as his Geno Auriemma at UConn, and see how this develops into a glorious recruiting pitch.
