CyberNut, a startup based in Miami, Florida, recently came out of stealth mode. The company has introduced a new security awareness training platform designed specifically for the K-12 education sector.
According to Security Week, the company announced the closing of an $800,000 pre-seed funding round. The investment was led by Charter School Growth Fund, Avalanche VC, and Transcend Network.
CyberNut has created an AI-powered gamified training tool. This tool is designed to educate teachers, faculty, and students on how to recognize and report phishing attacks. The company tailored its solution to schools' unique operational and budgetary constraints.
The funding from this round will be used to strengthen the platform's capabilities and expand its reach in the United States. CyberNut aims to make its cybersecurity training tools more accessible to school districts and help them reduce the risks associated with data breaches and cyberattacks.
The company has already seen good results with its implementation. We currently work with 50 school districts who report that their training has significantly improved users' ability to identify phishing emails and quickly report suspicious activity.
CyberNut CEO and co-founder Oliver Page commented on the urgency of addressing digital safety in schools. “As an advocate for digital safety in education, I cannot stress enough the tremendous risk that data breaches pose to students,” Page said. “It's not just the potential for financial disruption. It's also the psychological toll that identity theft can have on young students, such as middle school and high school students. A single phishing attack can kill hundreds of people, In some cases, the personal information of thousands of students could be compromised, potentially costing schools and districts up to millions of dollars.”
“Our approach is unconventional yet effective. We leverage gamification to transform cybersecurity training into an engaging and empowering training process,” Page added.
