The National Human Rights Commission on Sunday called on the government to take diplomatic efforts to rescue Nepali victims of the Russo-Ukrainian war and manage the treatment of the injured.
In a statement, the commission's spokesperson, Tikaram Poharel, called on the government to repatriate the bodies of those killed in the war.
Human rights watchdogs also called on the government to save the lives of people, including Krithu Bhandari, who has been on a 17-day hunger strike in Kathmandu demanding the rescue of Nepalis.
The commission said a team of rights groups found during field visits that the health conditions of hunger strikers were worsening day by day.
Families of the victims have been protesting in Kathmandu, calling for the safe repatriation of Nepalese serving in the Russian army, compensation and treatment for those injured in the war, and safe evacuation of the five Nepalese who were taken away. The committee reminded the government of its responsibility to rescue Nepalis stranded abroad and protect their human rights wherever they are.
