NEW YORK, May 3, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Verizon Business will be a mainstay at RSA 2024 (booth #5570) at San Francisco's Moscone Center, showcasing the latest cybersecurity strategies and solutions, and more importantly Best of all, I'll demonstrate how to do it. Put them to work for the business world.
“Our presence at RSA this year goes beyond just having a booth. As a global leader in cybersecurity, we are committed to helping the global business community educate themselves and plan to protect their data. We have a responsibility to help,” said Jennifer Berner, Senior Director. Verizon Business, North American Security Solutions Sales Representative. “Every year, this meeting becomes more important. Like Verizon Business, bad actors are working 24/7. Conversations lead to planning and meaningful action on cybersecurity preparedness. Please talk to our team to connect.”
On May 1, Verizon Business released its 2024 Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR). For the past 17 years, DBIR has served as a trusted and comprehensive source of information on data breaches and cyber incidents around the world. The 2024 report investigated more than 30,000 incidents across 94 countries, analyzed more than 10,000 confirmed data breaches, and compiled a record number of breaches.
What you need to know about the 2024 DBIR findings:
Big news. Exploitation of vulnerabilities such as ransomware attacks and extortion techniques increased by 180% and nearly tripled in the last year. The report found that it takes an average of 55 days for companies to patch only 50% of their vulnerabilities, whereas it takes threat actors only 5 days to find and exploit vulnerabilities. has also been revealed.
Credential theft remains a problem. Over the past decade, 31% of all breaches involved credential theft. This includes phishing attacks. In fact, this year's report found that the median time a user falls for a phishing email is less than 60 seconds.
Humans are vulnerable. 68% of all breaches include a “benign human element” caused by someone falling victim to a social engineering attack, such as phishing, or making some kind of mistake, such as sending sensitive information to the wrong person was involved.
We have others, too. The cyber threat landscape is becoming increasingly complex and dangerous. The 2024 report is designed to help business owners and employees protect their data with a deeper understanding of current trends and new techniques used by bad actors.
“Year after year, certain things remain the same: bad actors work tirelessly to steal and monetize data, the human element remains vulnerable, and business leaders must focus on their cybersecurity architecture. ,” said Chris Novak, senior director of the service. Verizon Threat Research Advisory Center. “As we saw in our 2024 Data Breach Investigations Report, vulnerability exploitation spiked 180% last year, with ransomware and extortion techniques accounting for one-third of all breaches. You need to think about security every day, because by the time you think you're ahead, you're already two steps behind.”
