Caitlin Clark's WNBA preseason debut with Indiana Fever: Live updates

Just two and a half weeks after being selected No. 1 overall by the Indiana Fever in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Caitlin Clark will make her preseason debut Friday night at 8 p.m. ET.

WNBA preseason games in 2024 will not be nationally broadcast. Even if you don't live close enough to watch the games on your local regional sports network, you can stay up to date with your favorite team through WNBA League Pass. In addition to the Feverwings, the Chicago Sky and Minnesota Lynx will also face off at 8pm ET.

  • It was a very beautiful pull-up by Jaelyn Brown for her 7th bucket of the game. She scored a game-high 17 points for Dallas and looks like a confident and comfortable veteran. If Brown doesn't make the Wings' roster, she'll likely end up on some hard contract to fill seven-day and 10-day stints throughout the season.

  • Clark headed to the bench after picking up his fourth foul with 4:50 left in the third quarter.

  • This was Clark's fourth turnover due to Dallas' strong defense. He had some turnover-heavy periods at Iowa, but playing against better defenders than he faced in college will be a focus for improvement throughout the season.

  • Half fever

    It will be interesting to see how much playing time Clark gets in the second half. The Fever has 15 players in camp and will need to be down three players by the season opener on May 14th. Another home preseason game is scheduled for next week. Head coach Christie Sides will likely be looking to more of these players to earn a final roster spot.

    The trio of Nalyssa Smith (16:31), Aliyah Boston (17:33) and Clark (16:05) played at least five more minutes than any other Fever player in the first half. It's all about the team and the starting position. Kelsey Mitchell (left ankle out) and Katie Lou Samuelson (right ankle out, returning from maternity leave) will join the expected starting lineup when they return.

  • The Fever led 48-40 at the half, with Clark scoring 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting (3-of-8).

  • Fittingly, Clark's first assist as a Fever player was to former No. 1 pick Aliyah Boston. It's what we've been waiting for. Mr. Clark quickly slipped one into her paint so she could clean it up.

  • Dallas picks up Clark and guards her close to the half-court line, but she's still creating space, taking shots, and hitting them. She seems to be okay at the professional level.

  • Clark adds a fourth 3 to left. A sold-out crowd in Arlington is about to get the show they've been waiting for. It's only preseason!

    Clark came off the bench after playing the first 7 minutes and 33 seconds of the game. She scored 11 of Indiana's 23 points on efficient 3-of-4 shooting, all from beyond the arc. She added one early rebound but had no assists yet. Wings led 26-23. Jaelin Brown, an undrafted rookie who played four years at the University of California from 2016 to 2020, leads Dallas with eight points.a

  • For years, Dallas has relied too much on Arike Ogunbowale's scoring as its primary offensive line. That changed last year with Natasha Howard in the mix and Sato Sabally having a fully healthy season. Jaycee Sheldon, a top-five pick out of Ohio State, has shown early on that he can be a great offensive force for the team. She is given the task of protecting Clark early on.

  • It seems like two months ago that Jaycee Sheldon fouled Caitlin Clark and we're watching the Big Ten. This was one of her challenges in situations where passing lanes aren't available, but having Boston and Smith clean up rebounds will be a big help when they fail. Clark scored up to 8 points in 5 minutes.

  • Clark got to the line and made his first two free throws at the 5:10 mark of the first period.
