Vampire Survivors is getting another DLC pack next week. This time we bring a crossover with Konami's classic shooter series, Contra. It wouldn't be a Contra mashup without the iconic spread shot. Developer Ponkle revealed a little about how this weapon will work in Indie Smash.
Like Contra proper, Vampire Survivors' Spread Shot “fires a wide area in the face,” Ponkle explains. Tweet. When combined with the Book of the Sky, it eventually evolves into something called Prototype C. There's no clear indication as to what it is, but there's no doubt that it's just the kind of power-up that melts monsters causing chaos. The fireworks at the end of a round of Vampire Survivors are very satisfying.

If you've ever played Contra, either the 1987 arcade original or the popular 1988 NES version, you already know that the spread shot is the best weapon in video game history. In the notoriously challenging run-and-gun platformer, I found it extremely useful to have a gun that could spray bullets to cover almost the entire screen. There's nothing worse than losing a weapon in a game. Either a needless death or a greedy cooperating partner.
Spread Shot will be added to Vampire Survivor's arsenal on May 9th as part of the Operation Guns DLC. This includes a total of 22 new weapons and a selection of new characters and stages to explore. Vampire Survivors remains one of the most interesting things you can buy for $5, and its ultra-cheap DLC has yet to disappoint.
