McKinney, Texas – Georgia Tech Christ LamprechtHe has been selected as the 2024 recipient of the Byron Nelson Award, the world's top-ranked amateur athlete. This award is presented annually to the Division I, II, III, or NAIA Scholarship Athlete of the Year. Alumni who receive the award are recognized for their accomplishments in the classroom, course, and community.
The senior from George, South Africa becomes the fifth Georgia Tech player to win the Byron Nelson Award. Anders Albertson (2015), James White (2012), Roberto Castro (2007) and Troy Matteson (2003). Lamprecht's honor was announced Wednesday at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson Luncheon at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas.
“I am truly honored to be selected as this year's recipient,” Lamprecht said. “It is truly an honor to be mentioned in the same sentence as Byron Nelson and so many others who have received this award. It's an award I really wanted to win because it means more than hitting.”
Lamprecht will graduate summa cum laude Saturday with a bachelor's degree in finance and one of the highest GPAs in head coach Bruce Hepler's 29 years at Georgia Tech.
The George, South Africa, native and two-time GCAA All-America Scholar has volunteered multiple times with Georgia Tech Athletics' Michael Eisenhour Toy Drive, where he donated more than 2,000 toys and an average An $8,000 donation helps provide Christmas gifts to children at a downtown Atlanta shelter. During the six weeks he was back in South Africa for spring break last year, Lamprecht helped his mother plan and prepare for all of the high school's spring activities, including academics, athletics and social events. An already illustrious amateur and collegiate career has since culminated.
“For me, this means more than golf on the course,” Lamprecht added. “In this day and age with social media and all that, it's so easy to just look at results and people judge you based on results, so an award like this means a lot to me personally. It's about you. It's a highlight of my college career in terms of the awards and honors I achieved. It's something I will cherish for the rest of my life. is.”

Along with assisting the department's nutrition staff with stocking, preparing and delivering snack bags for road trips across various programs, Lamprecht will also represent the Yellow Jackets in the 2023 East Lake Cup Junior Clinic, where the top-ranked men's amateur Becomes a golfer. He won the amateur championship, was a low amateur at the British Open last summer, competed in the Masters, was named to the U.S. first team last season and competed in both the Arnold Palmer and Arnold Palmer tournaments. Cup competitions (participated two years in a row) and the World Team Amateur Championship, to name a few.
The 6-foot-8 senior won two collegiate events in the fall: the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational and the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational. Since then, he has finished in the top 10 four more times, including a tie for third at last week's Atlantic Coast Conference Championship, and is ranked No. 6 in the latest Scoreboard NCAA Golf Rankings.

Lamprecht is also one of 10 semifinalists for the 2024 Ben Hogan Award. The award recognizes the top men's NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, or NJCAA golfer in all collegiate, amateur, and professional events during the past 12 months and is presented annually to the nation's top college athlete. He is one of 15 players on the Fred Haskins Award Players to Watch list.
