JANE, Mo. (KNWA/KFTA) — On Thursday, Sheepdog Impact Assistance will be sending a response team to Sulphur, Oklahoma, for people affected by recent tornadoes.
An EF-3 tornado struck the town Saturday night, destroying many businesses downtown.
“Many of our members will have significant experience in disaster recovery operations,” said Sgt. Major Lance Nutt, CEO and Founder of Sheep Dog Impact Assistance;
The team will be in Oklahoma for five to six days to assist affected families and businesses.
“It's mostly chainsaw work. We're removing debris from roads, driveways and homes,” Nutt said.
Nutt said the team is prepared to handle stressful situations.
“These men and women have served in the military and as first responders, and they are trained, prepared, and understand chaotic situations,” Nutt said.
Nutt says it's important to spread hope to those who have lost everything.
“It's about giving people hope. Helping those who are most affected understand that things will get better and that it will take time. But you have people who care about you. There are people out there,” Nat said.
Nutt also says this is not just about healing those affected by the disaster. It is also about healing the members of Sheepdog Shock Support.
“Even after you retire, you need continued opportunities to feel like you still have a purpose. You still have a sense of belonging and it's okay to no longer wear the uniform and badge,” Nutt said.
Nutt said the organization has responded to 172 disasters.
