MISSOULA, MT — More than 320 students will receive their degrees from Montana Tech on Saturday.
Two ceremonies will be held at the university. The first hour will be held at 10 a.m. for graduates of Highlands University and the Department of Literature, Science, and Professional Studies. The second ceremony will begin at 1pm for graduates of the Reims School of Mines and Graduate Schools.
Chris Wright, founder and CEO of Liberty Energy, will be the commencement speaker.

Montana Tech's 2024 Commencement Ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at HPER. Two ceremonies will be held at the university. The first hour will be at 10 a.m. for graduates of Highlands University and the Department of Literature, Science, and Professional Studies. The second ceremony will begin at 1pm for graduates of the Reims School of Mines and Graduate School of Engineering. The university awards 345 degrees and certificates to 322 students.
Chris Wright, founder and CEO of Liberty Energy, will be the commencement speaker. Mr. Wright is a self-proclaimed technology geek turned entrepreneur and dedicated humanitarian on a mission to improve the lives of humanity. This passion inspired a career in energy, working not only in oil and gas, but also in fusion, solar, and geothermal.
Mr. Wright will be the first University graduate to join Liberty Energy Scholars. The Liberty Energy Scholarship was established in 2019 and will be endowed with $400,000 over 10 years. This scholarship covers the unmet financial need of Butte students even after other scholarships and grants have been applied. Since the program's inception, 31 scholars have been awarded Liberty Energy Scholarships. 6 people will graduate.
Amos Taiswa, Ph.D., candidate in the Department of Earth Sciences and Engineering, will be this year’s commencement speaker at both ceremonies.
The events leading up to the start are as follows.
The Line Rodeo will be held at the Highlands University Pole Yard on Friday, May 3rd from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The Order of Engineers will be held in the Library Auditorium on Friday, May 3 at 5 p.m. 75 people will be participating in this semester's ceremony.
The Sherry Laser School of Nursing will hold a Nursing Pinning Ceremony on Saturday, May 5th at 8 a.m. in the Library Auditorium. This ceremony symbolizes welcoming new graduate nurses into the nursing profession. At the ceremony, 23 Bachelor of Science (BSN) students will be awarded nursing pins by faculty from the Montana Tech School of Nursing.
