The Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) has announced the release of the MaritimeSG Shipping CyberSafe Scorecard. The tool enables ship owners, managers and operators to perform a self-assessment via an online portal to measure the level of cybersecurity readiness of their vessel operations.
CRisks to ship systems and operations are increasing. Industry-specific scorecards can help shipping companies assess these risks. Scorecards provide insight into areas for improvement and enable timely mitigation. This scorecard leverages the components of the established National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework: Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, and Recover to be better understood by maritime companies of all sizes. , provides a common language and systematic approach to management. , reducing cybersecurity risks for ship operations.
More than 30 maritime companies have completed self-assessments in the pilot phase, including industry leaders such as OSM Thome, Pacific International Lines, PCL and BW Group. Over time, SSA plans to use anonymized data to gain insight into industry-wide trends. This provides a foundation for onboarded companies to benchmark themselves against other peers. Future plans for this initiative include implementing an automated cybersecurity insurance application process to enable cybersecurity coverage options.
If Singapore is to remain a hub for reliable and resilient maritime operations, it is essential that the industry strengthens its cybersecurity posture. There is
There is currently nothing on the market that allows companies to perform such valuations. The scorecard provides the basis for companies to plan and implement long-term measures to improve their level of cybersecurity preparedness.
