ALBANY, NY, April 22—State Sen. Tom O'Mara (RC, Big Flats), Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee, today introduced the final New York state budget for 2024-2025 enacted by Governor Kathy Hochul and the Democratic supermajority in the Legislature. He called it “the most bloated and wasteful government budget.” In the United States. “
Mr. O'Mara, ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, said Mr. Hochul and the state's Democratic-led supermajority have increased spending by at least $8 billion over last year and adopted a record-breaking package of more than $237 billion. He pointed out that The spending plan includes an additional $2.4 billion to provide programs and services for New York's surge in illegal immigrants.
O'Mara said, “New York State taxpayers are already struggling to live and work with the most bloated and wasteful government budget in America, now and in the future. This budget will make the situation worse by increasing spending and benefits by at least $8 billion, which is not meaningful. In fact, it fails to address immediate economic and fiscal warnings, including significant tax cuts, duty relief, and debt relief, or basic priorities in education, health care, local roads and bridges, and many other areas. And to pay for it, Governor Hochul and the Democratic majority in the Legislature are squeezing as much money as possible from state and local taxpayers through higher taxes. This new budget will continue to increase funding by shifting more funds to local areas, ignoring desperately needed priorities, borrowing more money, and robbing reserves. It contains anti-economic opportunity, anti-growth, anti-freedom actions that will be the basis of every future state budget for as long as New York remains under one party, all Democratic control. are irresponsible, irrational, and misguided that overburden and make this state uninhabitable for taxpayers, families, workers, small businesses, manufacturers, farmers, and all parts of our communities and economy. will continue to be the leader in unsustainable spending.”
