Where else in the world can you shop at Hermès or Cartier while enjoying sandy beaches or hiking in the mountains within an hour's drive? Maybourne, a 5-star hotel located 1 block from Rodeo Drive This question came to mind as I settled into my suite in Beverly Hills. There's no answer to that question anywhere, especially when enjoying sunny, crisp California weather.
The only problem with staying at The Maybourne, surrounded by the world's best shopping, entertainment and dining, is that you may not want to venture off-site. With a rooftop pool club, dining options, and expansive spa, it's a place that's hard to leave, even on the beaches of Malibu or the San Gabriel Mountains. There were hikes and waterfalls there that made my wife and I feel like we were hours away from civilization.
As you unpack your luggage into your luxurious suite, which is larger than your first duplex, you can't help but notice the homely atmosphere established by the comfortable furniture, complemented by carefully selected unique art and coffee table books. It was.
A patio lunch at The Terrace at the Mayborn, surrounded by lemon trees, was a taste of California. We enjoyed cocktails and tagliani topped with the best lemon crème fraiche sauce I've ever had.
Even though it was January, I didn't want to miss the chance to see the beach, so I hurried to Malibu to have dinner while watching the sun set over the Pacific Ocean.
While we loved our food at Koreatown (barbecue cooked at the table) and appreciated the hearty breakfast burritos (compared to our local breakfast tacos in Dallas), we loved the food and cocktail experience at Maybourn. was truly memorable. In addition to The Terrace, the hotel also has a takeaway cafe and The Cigar and Whiskey Bar, a wood-paneled nook where you can imagine a deal being struck.
The complexity of The Maybourn Bar's unique cocktails remains in my memory. I can vouch for the bourbon-based Bounty Act and Demon Slayer, but I regretted only ordering two due to the extensive and creative menu.
Maybourne Hotel Group is a Qatari-owned British hotel operator with over 200 years of history, and its Beverly Hills hotel was its first property outside of London. The facility had a lot of eye-catching art, including Alex Israel's “Wave” and Mark Newson's aluminum surfboard. The hotel's spa services were top-notch and the wife enjoyed her husband-free days, getting massages and soaking in the mineral pool. During that time, I used a gym that rivaled a private fitness club.
Mayborn opened Dante, a rooftop bar and restaurant that is the original Dante's West Coast outpost in New York City. The spicy and sweet Diavola pizza paired well with the flavorful Dante's burrata, and the Fireside Old Fashioned overlooking the lights of the Hollywood Hills was heavenly.
Hiking Runyon Canyon overlooking Hollywood and the nearby Comedy Show was a great addition to our stay and a benefit of staying at the Maybourn. It was the perfect escape for a mom and dad with two energetic young sons.

Los Angeles is one of Alto's biggest markets, and CEO Will Coleman visits Southern California every few months. During his stay, he loves his morning runs on the beach and spending time in Beverly Hills, which he says feels like an oasis in the hustle and bustle. Two of Coleman's favorite spots are the rooftop of his Italian restaurant Elefante in Santa Monica and his Rooftop by JG at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, which offers an eye-catching panorama of the surrounding hills. “Beverly Hills reminds me of Highland Park, but even more luxurious,” says Coleman. “The atmosphere is similar, with residential neighborhoods, great shopping, and restaurants. Although relatively dense, it's very easy to get around this area.”
