After Microsoft acquired the studio last year, it decided to “let Blizzard be Blizzard.”
That's according to World of Warcraft executive producer and vice president Holly Longdale, who spoke about what life at Microsoft is like for developers in a recent interview with VGC.
“If anything, it's just been helpful,” Longdale said. “We were spending time with Helen Chang at Mojang and sharing information, so we had access to what worked for them. – Being able to talk to the team and share what we're doing and what's going well makes it feel like we've made a profit.
“No one is asking us to do anything,” she continued. “World of Warcraft is going very well and they're very proud of what they've been able to accomplish so it's like they're going to leave it alone and keep it great. It's very collaborative and it's like, “Let's let Blizzard be Blizzard.''
Microsoft officially completed its $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard in October.
In completing the biggest deal in gaming industry (and Microsoft) history, the Xbox maker has taken ownership of major console and PC franchises, including Call of Duty, Warcraft, and Diablo.
Blizzard today announced the World of Warcraft: The War Within Collector's Edition.
VGC recently had the opportunity to play The War Within and speak with the studio about the upcoming expansion.
