Video game adaptations have always been difficult to get right, and few have been a huge success. If you're someone who spends most of their free time playing games, you'll understand how frustrating it is to see adaptations that don't match the game at all.
After seeing the trailer for “Fallout,” I didn't have high expectations given the film adaptation's shaky reputation over the years. But to my surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and so did the rest of the world. With an impressive score of 94%, rotten tomatoesit can be said that Fallout fulfilled its role correctly.
In the past, shows like “The Last of Us'' and “Halo'' received considerable praise from their fanbases, as did movies like “Five Nights at Freddy's'' and “Uncharted.'' However, adaptations tend to omit important details that make unique game worlds… well, unique. “Fallout” doesn't have this problem at all, and it actually makes me look forward to future video game adaptations even more.

“BioShock”
BioShock is one of my favorite games, so you can imagine my excitement when I heard it was being made into a movie. The game follows his playable character Jack, who discovers a hidden underwater city after escaping a plane crash in the Atlantic Ocean. This isolated utopia looks beautiful from the outside, but step inside and you'll discover just how sinister the place really is.
Netflix has confirmed that the popular game is coming to the small screen, giving the underwater city of Rapture a chance to reach new people.be one of best streaming services, Netflix will also partner with 2K and Take-Two to bring the story to life. The movie will likely focus on the first game, which helps set up the world, characters, and mysterious forces that exist deep within Rapture.
“Gears of War”
Another of my favorite games is Gears of War, which has finally been made into a movie. The game focuses on the battle between humans and reptilian creatures known as the Locust. Players control Marcus, a soldier named Phoenix, who must join forces with his fellow warriors to destroy savage creatures and restore humanity so that everyone can live in peace.
Netflix has also claimed the game, and the movie is officially in development. There aren't many details about this adaptation yet, but it's likely that Locust will follow the first game and depict how humanity colonized another planet called Sera.
“Borderlands”
“Borderlands” is one of them. Movies I can't wait to see in 2024. The first game of the same name focuses on His Vault Hunters, a group of highly skilled characters who explore his Vault, which supposedly contains alien technology. As they travel through the savage nature of the planet Pandora, they must fight local bandits and stop a private military organization from reaching the vault first.
As for the film adaptation, it doesn't follow this plot directly, but it features similar characters that are just as comedic and fun. Lilith, played by Cate Blanchett, is an outlaw who must find the missing daughter of a military organization known as Atlas. She assembles a team to increase their chances of finding the girl and defeating the bandits and alien monsters that roam the Earth. The movie will be released on August 9th, so don't miss it.
'Until dawn'
Until Dawn is an interactive horror game that changes based on your choices. Making the wrong choice or saying the wrong thing can cause your character to die, and you can't bring it back. Players control his eight teenagers who must survive in a snowy mountain while being stalked by something sinister. I don't think I've ever sweated this much while playing a game. Because there was a determination to keep all the characters alive.
Now imagine this on the big screen. Gary Dauberman, who wrote horror films such as “Annabelle,'' “The Nun,'' and “It,'' will produce the screenplay for “Until Dawn.'' Not much has been revealed about the plot or cast yet, but the game's premise alone is enough to make it stand out as a terrifying tale. Since the main focus of the game is on the player's choices, I'd be interested to see what direction they take the movie.
“Horizon 2047”
“Horizon 2047” is one of the most anticipated video game adaptations and is based on the “Horizon Zero Dawn” franchise. These games follow Aloy, a young hunter who battles giant dinosaur-like machines that have conquered the world. Humans now survive in tribes, and Aloy will do whatever it takes to learn the truth about her past and her true whereabouts.
The Netflix adaptation could focus on other stories about Aloy or create an entirely new character. “Horizon” is a vast world with complex gameplay, so following the first game directly can be difficult and result in a more blunted version of the world. Either way, this show has the potential for stunning visuals and deep-rooted lore that everyone can fall in love with.
'Alan Wake'
“Alan Wake” has the potential to be a great show, and the concept alone has potential. The game focuses on Alan Wake, a crime novelist who travels to a small town with his wife to forget about his writer's block. However, his vacation is soon interrupted as a shadowy figure attempts to kill him and eventually kidnap his wife. The only way to fight them is to shine a light on them.
The show itself will likely feature Ilka Vili as Alan Wake, which physically depicts him in the game. In fact, “Alan Wake 2” included real-life scenes of actors throughout the player's gameplay. This sounds promising, but there have been no current updates since AMC acquired the franchise in 2020. It's been quiet news about this adaptation, but it could be making a comeback like both “Gears of War” and “Bioshock.”
'God of War'
Amazon Prime Video has officially announced that it will adapt “God of War'' into a drama. The game itself focuses on Kratos and his young son, Atreus. After the death of Kratos' wife, father and son embark on a journey to scatter her ashes across the Nine Realms. During their adventures, they face dangerous monsters and gods from the Norse world that threaten their survival.
It may take a while to learn more about this show, but it shares a similar synopsis to the game. The series will focus on the relationship between Kratos and his estranged son and the hardships they will endure to reach the Nine Realms. Expect more news regarding potential casting and development of the film soon.
