WHEELING — Jack Mills of Parkersburg finished in 9 minutes, 38.78 seconds to win the 3,200 meters and the Big Red Boys edged Olentangy Liberty 147-77 at the Dick Day Track Classic here Saturday. won runner-up.
Mills' teammate Connor George finished third with a time of 9:55.42, but Magnolia's Landen Davis passed in 9:52.83 for second place. The Blue Eagles' only other score came from shot putter Matthew Anderson (8th, 42-5).
No other Big Red athletes topped the podium, but Landen Dury (51.60 points) and Jackson Wharton (52.25 points) had 2-3 finishes in the 400 meters. They were joined by Connor Petty and Christian Rutherford in a 4×4. White ended the tournament with a winning time of 3 minutes 31.96 seconds.
Tyler Shahan was runner-up for the Big Reds with Petty, Wharton and anchor Dury in the 4×2 (1:32.12)
Parkersburg's 4×8 relay of Ricardo Salazar (8th, 1600, 5:00.56), Anthony Herrera, Daniel Martin and Rutherford took fifth in 8:48.67.
Head coach Rod O'Donnell's team also had Jake Bauman taking third place in the shot put (48-0).
Mills ran a 2:02.55 in the 800, a good time for fourth place. Fellow Big Red teammates Jacob Bohorn (6th place, 110 time, 16.21 seconds; 6th place, 300 time, 43.28 seconds), Titan Parsons (8th place, 110 time, 16.46 seconds), and Ethan Parsons (8th place, 110 time, 16.46 seconds). Dela Cruz (8th place, long jump, 19 wins, 4 minutes, 5 seconds) also contributed to the Red and White's victory. Runner-up finish.
The Big Reds will be back in action next Saturday at Stadium Field for the Russ Parsons Invitational.
