A 5,000-square-foot video gaming lounge will open on State Street this summer for beginners and advanced gamers alike.
The gaming lounge “Guild” is scheduled to open at 668 State St. Co-owner Jin Li said the store already has two employees helping drive the business forward, and plans to hire six more staff once the lounge opens.
Lee said the guild will have 40 to 45 gaming computers, as well as several gaming console stations, including popular gaming consoles such as PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
According to Lee, retro game consoles will also be made available to customers upon request, including Atari and older Nintendo consoles.
The gaming lounge will feature a library with a variety of games for customers to choose from. Lee said if a customer wants to play a game he doesn't have on The Guild, the lounge will try to get it.

“We're going to have as large a library as possible,” he said.
The gaming lounge will also have a bar serving alcoholic beverages, a snack menu and private rooms that gamers can use for virtual reality gaming and other purposes, Lee said. In addition to installing several arcade machines inside The Guild, including nostalgic titles such as Pac-Man, the co-owners have partnered with local artists to create custom gaming-related T-shirts that The Guild plans to sell. I'm also interested in designing shirts.
Mr Lee and co-owner Sonia Tan described the atmosphere at The Guild as casual, comfortable and inviting.
He said gamers who want to visit the lounge will have a variety of pricing options, from hourly rates to day passes, and University of Wisconsin-Madison students will receive discounted pricing.
“We surveyed the community to understand what kind of prices they expect to pay,” Lee said.
Lee and Tan, former University of Wisconsin-Madison students and gamers themselves, began discussing a business concept two years ago, hoping to give their fellow students more diverse options for entertainment in downtown Madison. Mr Tan said he thought it should be given. The co-owners also like Madison for its video game startup activity and general gaming community.
“We're definitely very excited,” she said of the opening on State Street. “We want this to be a gaming hub.”
