WHEELING, W.Va. — The Wheeling Police Department is issuing several road safety advisories to the traveling public in preparation for the Monument Place Bridge closure scheduled for Monday, April 15th.
Signs will be in place throughout the weekend to notify drivers of the road closure, officials said.
The bridge spans Little Wheeling Creek at the intersection of State Highway, Kruger Street, and East Bethlehem Boulevard. (WV 88) in the city's Elm Grove neighborhood.
The West Virginia Department of Highways urges motorists to bypass the closure by traveling east and west on I-70 to Exit 2B/Washington Avenue, then exit to Exit 4/Elm Grove. I am.
The closure is expected to last until the end of the year, according to WVDOH. Travelers should note the Washington Avenue Bridge over Big Wheeling Creek. This bridge has a weight limit of 5 tons.
Key safety precautions from police include:
- Junior Avenue and East Bethlehem Boulevard (WV 88) are permanently restricted to right turns only. Motorists cannot turn left or go straight at this five-way intersection from Junior Avenue.
- Note the school district near Bridge Street Middle School on both Junior Avenue and East Bethlehem Boulevard/WV 88.
- Avoid blocking intersections and be aware of the influx of traffic, especially in the afternoon.
- Please allow sufficient time to move through the area and be aware of your surroundings. Avoid talking or texting on your cell phone. Officers are monitoring the area and will issue citations.
