Starting in fall 2024, Dearborn Public Schools high school students will be able to take classes and earn certifications in a new cybersecurity program.
Dearborn Public Schools has partnered with the City of Dearborn and Henry Ford University to create a comprehensive cybersecurity program. Part of that funding comes from his $250,000 state grant. The new program will expose students from grades 10 to 12 to a variety of information technology and computer science careers. The program is hosted by the Michael Berry Career Center and is available to students at the district's Fordson, Dearborn, Edsel Ford, virtual K-12 and magnet high schools.
Through the Michigan Cybersecurity Education Initiative (MICE)'s rigorous curriculum, students can earn numerous industry-recognized CompTIA certifications, preparing them for post-high school employment in these high-demand, high-paying industries. It will be possible. Additionally, the program is in partnership with Henry Ford University's Accreditation Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education, allowing high school students to earn up to 15 college credits while enrolled in high school cybersecurity classes.
Henry Ford College, in partnership with the National Security Agency, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the City of Dearborn, ensures that students who complete this rigorous curriculum will have lucrative employment opportunities locally, nationally, and internationally. We are trying to make it possible.
The Michael Berry Career Center offers a new state-of-the-art cybersecurity lab that allows students to put the knowledge and skills they're learning in the classroom into hands-on practice. This lab is equipped with the latest safety features, allowing students to maximize their skills in a controlled environment without risking damage to district or regional internet resources. Become.
To enroll in the program, interested students enrolled in any high school in the district should speak to a counselor. Students and parents may also contact CTE Supervisor Dr. John Bayerl at bayerlj@dearbornschools.org or (313) 827-4808.
“Dearborn Public Schools has a long history of providing career and technical instruction in high-demand fields and providing opportunities for students to explore areas of interest,” said Superintendent Glenn Malejko. Ta. “Our new cybersecurity program does both, and we are pleased to partner with Henry Ford University and the City of Dearborn to launch this program in this rapidly growing career field.”
