Jose W. Fernández, Undersecretary of Economic Growth, Energy and Environment, announced on March 10 that he will deepen economic cooperation, strengthen strategic partnerships, promote more sustainable and resilient global supply chains, and promote preparedness. I will be visiting Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic until the 12th. Preparing for future pandemics in the Western Hemisphere.
The Under Secretary will co-host the second high-level meeting of the Inter-American Economic and Health Dialogue (EHA). EHA is a regional and multilateral initiative to assess gaps in the public health sector, share best practices and tools to support sustainable and effective health financing, and build resilience in health supply chains. By doing so, we encourage governments to strengthen their health systems and protect their economies. The conference will bring together ministers and deputy ministers of health, finance, economy and foreign affairs from 19 countries. EHA members will present initiatives related to health system strengthening and supply chains.
During his visit, he will also participate in the American Alliance for Democracies and Development (ADD) Joint Consultative Dialogue on Supply Chains between the United States, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and Panama. This dialogue will advance cooperation between the two countries to strengthen the resilience of supply chains in the health sector and provide concrete action items for implementation.
The Undersecretary appointed the Dominican Republic to deepen economic cooperation, advance the Dominican Republic's leadership in the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity, and advance the Dominican Republic's role in critical supply chains including medical products, semiconductors, and apparel. He is scheduled to meet with senior leaders of the Republic. . He will also work with private sector leaders to learn about opportunities and challenges for American companies.
