I want to thank Attorney General Austin Knudsen for trying to dismantle the final challenge to Montana governance: our state constitution. I mean, what did 100 democratically elected representatives know about governance? I was crazy for giving them the right to access and enjoy a clean environment. It's about time to get rid of that old rag.
Mr. Knudsen, I applaud your campaign to correct these wrongs. The people of Montana are happy to fill your coffers with your hard-earned money. You chose to defend the indefensible, and you were willing to use our funds to do so. Was there much of a fight in Held v. Montana? Court records say your office didn't put up much resistance, but stupidly, at least you showed up and put $95,000 in our wallets. I charged. You sued the Duke in the state Supreme Court and in doing so “undermined the public's confidence in the fairness and impartiality of our judicial system.” And, to make matters worse, you've had dozens of unconstitutional proposals submitted to the Supreme Court, and you don't seem to have any intention of blocking them. At least you know when to pick a fight. Between our friends in the Legislature and the people's laws, we know who to support.
What is the cost of a “free and fair government”? One constitution.
