CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WTRF) – State Treasurer Riley Moore is running for West Virginia's 2nd Congressional District. The seat currently held by Representative Alex Mooney.
Moore was previously the House of Representatives Majority Leader and was elected Treasury Secretary in 2020.
He said one of the main focuses will be deals with financial giants such as BlackRock and Goldman Sachs. He claims these companies are sabotaging the coal industry through a process called “environmental and social governance” (ESG), and explains that they are using taxpayer money to advance left-wing political causes. are doing.
“What ESG is, it’s about forcing money into ideas, and these are going to be left-wing ideas, not profits. That means dollars are being forced towards political causes, and they’re going to be forced into ideas at the voting booth. Because they can't achieve that, they try to push the idea even further…The economy has grown like a rocket and a lot of development has followed, and I'm very proud of that, but I'm willing to sell my soul for it. I have no intention of doing so.”

Currently, 10 banks are on West Virginia's “list of restricted financial institutions” that boycott fossil fuel companies. This list is based on the 2022 legislation originally introduced by Treasury Secretary Moore.
He will face four other Republicans in the May 14 Republican primary. His opponents include Dennis/Nate Cain, Joseph Early, Alexander Garceldo, and Chris Walker.
