The hit indie video game Dredge has been turned into a live-action feature film, and we're already hooked.
The film's logline describes the upcoming project as a “sixth sense on the water” and “a fusion of cosmic horror with the down-to-earth atmosphere of HP Lovecraft and Ernest Hemingway.” That certainly piqued our interest, considering this game is a single player where we discover both fish and secrets from the depths of the ocean in a creepy and mysterious environment (especially after dark). , Dredge seems ripe for such a creepy adaptation.
Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, Dan Jevons and Timothy I. Stevenson of the production company Story Kitchen said in a statement: “Dredge is a captivating, eerie and profound story that completely grips us from the start. It hooked me!” Interestingly, Johnson has experience bringing video games to the big screen, as he is also the producer of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie and its sequel.
Dredge was nominated in four categories at this year's BAFTA Game Awards: Debut Game, Narrative, Game Design, and New Intellectual Property.
The game was released by Black Salt Games in March 2023 and was a huge success. More than 100,000 copies were sold in his first 24 hours (H/T Variety).
Nadia Thorne, Joel Mason, Alex Ritchie and Michael Bastiaens of Black Salt Games said: “We are thrilled to partner with such an experienced studio team to bring the world we have created to life and inspire the imaginations of audiences around the world. I'm excited about it.”
The Dredge movie doesn't have a release date yet. In the meantime, check out our guide to all upcoming major movie release dates scheduled for 2024.
