Phillies trade Connor Brogdon to Dodgers Originally broadcast on NBC Sports Philadelphia
WASHINGTON — The Phillies traded Connor Brogdon to the Dodgers on Saturday, four days after drafting him.
They acquired Benony Robles, a 23-year-old left-handed pitcher from the Dominican Republic.
Robles pitched in 33 games for the Dodgers' High-A team last season, posting a 3.86 ERA, 12 saves, and 53 strikeouts. He signed with the Dodgers as an amateur free agent in 2017.
Brogdon was DFAed on Tuesday after allowing seven runs (six earned) on three hits, six walks and two home runs in just two innings. He entered the season on shaky ground, as he is out of minor league options and the team always needs to juggle the last spot in the bullpen when it needs a new weapon.
Brogdon pitched in Games 1, 2, and 4, but couldn't throw a strike and was hit hard when he did, so the Phillies took action on Tuesday by bringing in Ricardo Pinto and He pitched the final four innings of the night and earned the save.
Brogdon was a highly productive reliever in 2022, posting a 3.27 ERA in the regular season and fighting off stiff competition in the playoffs, pitching over 8 1/3 innings from Game 3 to Game 5 of the NLDS. He gave up a run and had 13 strikeouts. World Series.
He hasn't been able to regain his form, strike-throwing ability or confidence since then, but he'll get a fresh start in Los Angeles.
