Reel Life's Indiana Jones is a legend. However, it is none other than Lara Croft, his female personification in the Tomb Raider video game, that has reached iconic status. This character was just named the most iconic video game character of all time by BAFTA. This was the result of a groundbreaking gamer survey aimed at crowning the most iconic video game character of all time. Over 4,000 gamers from around the world participated in this study.
The top 20 characters range from anthropomorphic creatures to gun-toting secret agents and are a collection of some of the biggest names in gaming. These characters form some of the most valuable contributions to video game lore and embody unforgettable figures.
At the top of the list is none other than Lara Croft, the famous protagonist of Tomb Raider. The game was released in 1996, and since then, Lara Croft has made numerous improvements to her TV, movie, and video games.
Second place is the legendary Mario. An iconic Nintendo figure created by legendary Japanese game designer Shigeru Miyamoto. Mario has been a widely recognized gaming figure since his appearance as Jumpman in the 1981 arcade classic, Donkey Kong.
And in third place is Agent 47 from the Hitman series. Created by Danish video game developer IO Interactive in 1998, Agent 47 debuted in 2000 with Hitman: Codename 47. The genetically engineered assassin has since appeared in eight major games.
