Eagles and Jordan Mailata agree to big three-year contract extension Originally broadcast on NBC Sports Philadelphia
The Eagles and left tackle Jordan Mailata have agreed to a three-year contract extension that will keep him in Philadelphia through the 2028 season, league officials confirmed to NBC Sports Philadelphia.
The three-year extension is worth $66 million, including $48 million in guaranteed money and a $20 million signing bonus, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
At an average of $22 million a season during the extension, Mailata is currently the fourth-highest paid player in the NFL behind Laremy Tunsil ($25 million), Andrew Thomas ($23.5 million), and Trent Williams ($23 million). He is now a left tackle.
Mailata becomes the fourth Eagles player signed through 2028, joining Jalen Hurts, Landon Dickerson and Jake Elliott.
Mailata and Dickerson are very close off the field, but represent a dynamic duo on the left side of the Eagles' line for at least the next five seasons.
Mailata, 27, hasn't made a Pro Bowl or been an All-Pro yet, but he's an incredibly consistent left tackle and has shown signs of becoming one of the NFL's best offensive linemen. The next step in his game is for him to be one of the best players of all time.
Mailata's well-documented story is truly incredible. He grew up in Australia and was a rugby player before coming to the United States to pursue his American football career. Although he knew little about the sport upon his arrival, Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland was intrigued by Mailata's natural athleticism. Stoutland is widely considered to be one of the best position coaches in the NFL, and Mailata is his finest work.
And Stoutland never lets Mailata rest.
“Coach Stout loves to remind us every day in passing,” Mailata said last spring. “That's even when you're playing golf. It's very easy to know what needs cleaning. Speaking of which, the rooms we were given were of a high standard. Jason Peters, Lane Johnson, Brandon – I was grateful to be able to train with guys like Brooks, Isaac Seumalo, Halapoulivaati Vaitai and Chance Womack. They set the standard. Stephen Wisniewski. Mentioned Wiz. If you don't, it's a crime.
“They set the standard and it's so easy when you chase greatness. That's the kind of mindset I live by every day, just chase greatness.” Lane (Johnson) and others. When you get to play with (Jason) Kelce, you're forever chasing greatness. ”
The Eagles traded back in the seventh round of the 2018 draft and acquired Mailata with the 233rd overall pick. It was a lottery that paid off big for the Eagles and Mailata. After not playing in a single game in his first two NFL seasons, Mailata earned a chance to start 10 games in 2020 and beat out first-round pick Andre Dillard to start the Eagles' starting lineup in 2021. He was selected as left tackle. Over the past three seasons, Mailata has started 47 games and has played at a very high level.
After beating Dillard in 2021 training camp, Mailata signed a four-year, $64 million contract extension and was still playing on a contract worth $16 million per season. Mailata had two years left on his current contract, but the Eagles took the initiative and locked down the left tackle long-term.
Mailata will be 31 years old at the end of the 2028 season. He has a chance to go down as a great Eagle.
