quarter match
I agree with Angry_Kurt and have to say that Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown being named the best game of the year so far is right and on point. I played the demo and liked a lot of it, so I immediately bought the game since it was heavily discounted. At the moment it's just over £20 so I had no hesitation. Either that, or he's The Mobius Machine, which GC recently reviewed, scored poorly in reviews, and is now in about the same price range.
Additionally, I looked at the performance breakdown on Digital Foundry and it's running at 60fps at 1080p docked, even when playing on the Switch. If you're lucky enough to have a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, you can hit up to 120fps in 4K. Overall all versions are well tuned so you get a great game at an affordable price.

logical conclusion
There wasn't really anything new in the story of what people were playing last year, but seeing everything laid out like this… it's hard not to worry about the future of the game.
The few people who play and watch the video games we talk about in our inboxes every day are depressing, and for so many “gamers” it's all about going online and talking about video games with friends. It shows that it is an excuse.
That's not to say there's anything wrong with it, but it does mean that the number of people who like more complex or unusual games is probably much smaller than we think. Many of the most popular games are free-to-play live service games, so we can't say this was always the case or we just didn't know.
It's not hard to see what bean counters who look at these numbers would come to…

I'll catch up
The 3DS was a great handheld game console for its time, but I always felt that Nintendo, being its so-called competitor, was always lagging behind in terms of graphics and power. Personally, I think they haven't caught up yet.
Nintendo has some really great games, but sometimes it still feels like we're stuck in the 90s and early 2000s.

GC: This letter certainly seems stuck in the 2000s. The 3DS outsold its more powerful rival, the PS Vita, by more than 60 million units.

invisible improvement
Interestingly, some people can't visually tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps. I noticed the difference right away, but I'm not a pro gamer. You can easily test this without using a video game.
Changing your TV settings to Smoothing/Motion Flow changes the standard frame rate from 24/30 to 60/120 on modern TVs. The result is a “melodrama” effect. Very unpleasant. But unlike video games, it's unnatural. I can't believe no one noticed a difference in this simple experiment.
The game's 30fps can be reduced with proper motion blur. Without this, the framerate will be very noticeable.

summer events
If Silent Hill 2 ends up being the most exciting thing at PlayStation's summer showcase, we're really in trouble. I think that's probably the only thing we know for sure, especially given the leaks so far, but what else is Sony going to do?
We know Xbox's Summer Showcase was a huge success last year, so are they really going to make an effort to compete with that? What does it mean with no major releases until next year? Also, is there still room for something smaller like Astro Bot or this Concord live service game?
Of course we don't know, but what I'm hoping is that we get a new boss announcement for the PlayStation. They haven't had a big game in 12 months and they don't have a leader… Is it any wonder people are losing faith?

Roadmap for 2024
So, for 2024, I decided to take on the challenge of gaming and speed running marathons. This is my progress so far. I think I'm doing pretty well. Speaking of which, I am myself. I just finished “Force Spokes''. Let me tell you, it's not a bad game by any means. There's a decent story. Frey is a decent character, not the worst, but not the best either. Overall, I can't wait to start expanding the list. A wonderful journey is about to begin.

fallout success
Since this Fallout TV show actually looks good and will probably be a hit, does that mean they'll do an Elder Screen show as well? This is the basic logic of television and movies. If one hits, the other closest match will be executed as well.
Amazon's Lord of the Rings series is terrible, and I don't really like House of the Dragon, so I think there's room for less serious fantasy shows that aren't necessarily that expensive. (Skyrim is basically just Vikings, with occasional dragons). I see it.

slight chance
So last week I decided that my phone no longer recognized my SIM card. It was a lot of fun. I had to go to my local provider's store and get it sorted. That's EE. For my many sins. Who are you kidding? They are all about the same.
Despite going through an endlessly long process and taking several days to sort things out, I managed to survive the barrage of aggressive sales pitches. Yes, it's daily. But they managed to seduce me with something. They offered me a PlayStation 5 to take home as part of some kind of installment plan. I think it's around £31 a month.
I didn't have enough credit on my flexi plan at the time so I couldn't take advantage of it…or something. Blue sky thinking. outside the box. Please be a strawberry. Get it while supplies last. Blah blah blah. Hubba, hubba, hubba – who can you trust?
Now, you might say this will be more expensive in the long run. Maybe. I didn't ask that. That being said, I am on benefits and have a long term mental illness. My chances, or even ability, of escaping the trap of poverty are… slim. It's slimmer than any PlayStation Slim. Hahaha.
So this might be your only chance to upgrade to the next-gen console. And there are some things I want now. This includes Mortal Kombat 12(1), Tekken 8, Baldur's Gate 3, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and perhaps even Dragon's Dogma 2 if it's discounted. Looks like it's worth around £25. I love a good character creator.
So… is it worth it? Has anyone else taken advantage of this?

Inbox also ran
So how long until Sony announces its acquisition of Arrowhead? I'm really enjoying Helldivers 2. The recent updates are also great and everything is done correctly at the moment.

This is GC's second review of a pepper grinder. I bought it because of the low price and the ability to connect it to my drill dozer, and I was not disappointed. Without a doubt the best indie game I've played this year.
