PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — AAA Northeast is expecting more travelers than usual this week.
Due to spring break and severe weather, travelers are advised to pay close attention to storm and flight conditions.
Florence Healy was planning to return to Florida after visiting her fiancé in Rhode Island, and said her flight was delayed twice Wednesday evening.
“So I get home around 11:30,” Healy explained. “If I drive, I'll be home at 1 a.m.”
AAA Northeast expects spring break travel to peak on Thursday and Friday, with more than 50,000 flights on Thursday.
The influx of travelers comes at an inopportune time with the arrival of the storm, which will see strong winds and rain in the Northeast, with the possibility of snow in some areas.
Either way, Healy hopes the worst can be avoided.
“Well, I was worried they might attack tonight,” she said. “I don't want to fly on a plane with turbulence. I was told there would be gusty winds tonight.''
Kyle Grissom arrived at TF Green International Airport from Atlanta, where he said it was particularly busy.
“There were just so many people,” Grissom said. “It was a lot more than normal and more than I'm used to seeing, but for the most part everything was on time.”
Barbara Love left New Mexico early Wednesday morning and had a full day on the plane.
She said she wouldn't let the weather ruin her visit with loved ones to the East Coast.
“We came here to visit his children,” Love said. “So we just hunker down.”
