As a former travel editor, the amount of luggage I've tested would make you cringe.
please listen. If I didn't do that, some of my readers might still be wondering which luggage to buy. I think that's certainly true. And I thought I had it dialed — I've tested everything from Away to TravelPro to even the ultra-luxury Rimowa (previously my favorite). Then one day the name Karl Friedrick appeared on my screen. A luxury suitcase brand you've never heard of? Was it featured in HBO's “Succession”? Where was I?
So I had to test it. Before we get into the review, I'm happy to share that Carl Friedrik's The Check-In suitcase and Palissy Weekend bag passed with flying colors.
A few weeks ago, I took a trip to rural Montana. Now, this wasn't your typical excursion. Think about changing planes, rough skies, and TSA rummaging through my belongings. All while fighting against the elements of Mother Nature herself. I won't lie. I almost felt guilty exposing this clean load to such harsh conditions. But my duty was imposed, and I ruthlessly fulfilled my duty. I even felt sorry for the weekend users of Parisi. I'm as clumsy as they are, so even if I carried it on board the same conditions applied.
But let me tell you, my journey with Carl Friedrick's luggage was nothing short of eye-opening. As a self-proclaimed connoisseur of all things travel gear, I take pride in testing the folds and corners of industry stalwarts. Still, when I met Karl Friedrick, I felt like I'd found a hidden gem in a sea of familiar names.

Checkin met the challenge head-on with his refined demeanor and sturdy physique. The polycarbonate shell shed raindrops and snowflakes alike, and the wheels glided effortlessly across the airport floor.
But what really impressed me were the thoughtful details. A TSA-approved lock kept my belongings safe, and an expandable compartment provided unexpected space for souvenirs. Plus, an internal compression system keeps everything in place, no matter how tough the journey.
By the way, this is a suitcase without a zipper, but this is the first time I have seen a suitcase with this style. I actually don't want to go back. Two (non-simple) locks tighten the suitcase as it closes, making it easier to open, increasing the security of overstuffed luggage and further reducing the number of replacements and repairs in between.

When it comes to the Palissy Weekend bag, it has been my trusty companion through everything. Despite my clumsy tendencies, its leather exterior was spotless and a testament to its craftsmanship. And once inside, a sanctuary of organization awaited me, complete with designated compartments for all my essentials.
In the end, Karl Friedrick's luggage proved its mettle. It's not just about looking good (though it certainly is). It's about standing tall amidst the chaos of travel. So, all you fellow adventurers out there looking for the perfect companion for your journey, take my word for it. Karl Friedrick is a name to remember. We look forward to working with him on future expeditions.
