The Tucson small SUV is Hyundai's best-selling model and a versatile vehicle. However, competition in the compact SUV segment is fierce. Even small factors can knock it off the top of our best compact SUV list.
The 2024 Tucson ranks seventh, but far from the best. A minor update could push the 2025 version to the top of the list.
Trendy and chunky look
For the next model year, Hyundai plans to update the Tucson's visuals. Changes include a boxier grille (almost every designer is trying to make his SUV look more rugged for 2025) and new wheel designs. Hyundai still integrates daytime running lights into the grille, but they are larger and there are fewer of them now. New front and rear bumpers give it a more solid feel.
The XRT trim features new, easy-to-use bridge-style roof rails.
Stylish matching screen, wireless connection, baby mode
Inside, the available 12.3-inch driver's display screen and 12.3-inch central touchscreen are placed within the same bezel, giving the appearance of one wide, curved display. This is now a common look for midsize SUVs, but it's only now starting to make its way to cheaper SUVs as well.
After some drivers objected to the automaker's decision to control everything through a screen, Hyundai said, “The redesigned center stack includes auxiliary controls for frequently used driver controls such as audio volume and tuning.'' It includes additional knobs and switchgear, as well as carefully selected HVAC controls to significantly improve ergonomics.”
Hyundai fixed a long-standing complaint and made wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard on all trim levels.
A potentially ingenious new feature is the 2025 Tucson's baby mode. Hyundai says, “Within the new My Drive submenu, the driver-selectable Baby Mode reduces the harshness of initial acceleration, smoothing out driver inputs and creating a gentler acceleration feel for passengers.” I'm explaining. This gentler experience helps reduce potential disruptions that may upset young children or pets. ”
There are still three powertrain options
There is one major difference in the cabin of the upper trims. It has a small shifter mounted on the steering column, freeing up space on the center console.
Hyundai will not make any mechanical changes for 2025, so the Tucson will continue to be available as a gas, hybrid, or plug-in hybrid.
Hyundai has not disclosed prices for either. But don't expect a huge increase, as this change is essentially a matter of style or the introduction of technology that Hyundai is already building for other cars. Pricing for the 2024 Tucson starts at $28,875, including destination charge. A gasoline version of the 2025 model will go on sale in June, with hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions expected in late summer.
These changes should make Tucson more competitive than ever. With a generous 10-year powertrain warranty, there's always a strong argument for the value of buying a Hyundai product. New styling and standard smartphone connectivity should further improve the Tucson's standing.
