SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota (KELO) – Change is coming to the Sioux Falls-based regional sports network.
Midco Sports, which was launched in 2010, announced that it needed to “reduce the number of full-time team members in the Midco Sports team.” Midco Sports said in an emailed statement that it plans to focus on enhancing streaming content on Midco Sports Plus and university-affiliated content on linear channels.
“At that time, high school sports and certain original programming will no longer be produced by Midco Sports and will no longer be broadcast on our linear channels,” Midco spokesperson Paige Pearson Meyer said in an email to KELOLAND News. said in an emailed statement. “In the future, affected team members may be affiliated with Midco Sports in a crewhouse (freelance) capacity.”
One of those employees was playing live. announcer david brown, also previously worked at KELO-TV. “To say I was blind would be an understatement,” Brown said on social media.
“I have poured my heart and soul into Midco Sports over the past 11 years,” Brown said. In the post of X. “I can't replace this experience with anything.”
Brown said several friends and colleagues also lost their jobs.
Midco Sports, which announced a new partnership with the Summit League this summer, said it has communicated the change to its partner schools: North Dakota, South Dakota, South Dakota State and Augustana.
“We have a long-term partnership and remain committed to that relationship,” Pearson Meyer said in a statement.
