It's the most exciting time of the year for video game fans. Almost every major video game publisher is preparing to announce a new showcase showcasing their upcoming games. With the Summer Game Fest, Xbox Games Showcase, and the upcoming Nintendo Direct, there are tons of exciting new video games to look forward to. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 While some of these shows already have confirmed appearances, part of the fun of this summer's gaming marathon is guessing what's going to show up.
Here are five announcements I'm especially excited for at this summer's showcase. From games that have been leaked but never officially confirmed to titles that were announced years ago but then disappeared, any one of these titles would vault to the top of my personal most anticipated list if it were to be shown at this summer's showcase. With any luck, it will be announced soon.
Metroid Prime 4 returns
Metroid Prime Remastered 2023's production showed us just how expertly designed those games were, and why the Metroid subseries is considered so special. Metroid Prime 4 Nintendo will likely live up to the expectations and make this one last hurrah for one of the most popular video game consoles of all time. Nintendo has confirmed that it will hold a Direct this June, so if it does appear this year, it will probably be announced during that showcase.
Bioshock 4 finally announced
The trend of a long-awaited fourth film continues, and I Bioshock 4In December 2019, 2K confirmed that this long-awaited sequel was in development with Cloud Chamber Games, though it remains to be seen what they're working on. Historically, BioShock has been a series that has pushed the boundaries of narrative expression in video games. Series creative director Ken Levin is currently Judas It will be interesting to see what a new generation of developers at his own studio, inspired by the original BioShock, comes up with for the sequel.
For now, I'm a fan of Ken Levin's Judas Than a fog box Bioshock 4But that's mainly because I've seen some things about the former, but I don't know anything concrete about the latter. Teased 2K said the showcase will “unveil the next iteration of one of 2K's biggest and most beloved franchises.” Mafia 4, Borderlands 4or Sid Meier's Civilization VIIhere's hoping this is the next installment in the BioShock series.
A medieval-themed Doom game
One of the biggest rumors circulating ahead of the 2024 Summer Showcase is that id Software and Bethesda will announce a new installment in the Doom series. Insider Gaming reports that the game will appear at the Xbox Games Showcase as follows: Doom: Dark Age And it's set in a “medieval-inspired Doom universe.” We hope this rumor is true, because putting a medieval twist on Doom's hellish heavy metal aesthetic is a radical idea.
In 2016 Doom And the 2020s Doom Eternal “is an industry-leading game that turns first-person shooter combat into puzzles that can be solved with the right weapons and strategic improvisation. I'm excited to see how id Software applies this kind of game design to weapons more suited to fantasy worlds. The Xbox Games Showcase is shaping up to be a great one this year.” Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Proclaimand Black Ops 6 It will be released soon, Doom: Dark Age If it does appear, it could be a highlight of the show.
Horizon Zero Dawn has been made into a Lego
in particular, LEGO Horizon Adventures They'll likely either streamline the gameplay like TT Games' LEGO titles, or find a way to bring the series' signature hunting and trapping mechanics to life in LEGO form. There's no word on where this game will appear – it didn't make an appearance at State of Play, but PlayStation is listed as an official partner of Summer Game Fest, so it could make an appearance there.
Xbox Series X and PS5 mid-range upgrade
For over a year now, there have been rumors of a mid-range console refresh for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, similar to the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. Here is an official document that discusses them: It may not feel like it, but we are already almost four years into this console generation, and it's the perfect time to receive updated, slightly more powerful versions of the current consoles as a bridge until the next generation platforms from Sony and Microsoft arrive.
If any of these consoles are coming out this fall, I would want to know right away. The public would want to know too, so they can start saving up for them. The Xbox Games Showcase would be the perfect place for Microsoft to show what's next for Xbox, especially in a year where some are questioning the future of the hardware. It's also disappointing that the State of Play didn't mention the PS5 Pro. Hopefully, Sony will finally unveil the upgraded console this summer, if it even exists.
