The 49ers' journey back to the Super Bowl next season will be a long one. Both literally and figuratively.
Awaiting Wednesday's official release of the 2024 NFL season schedule, San Francisco's opponents and locations for each game next season have been known for months.
And according to bookies.com, which calculated the total travel distance for all 32 NFL teams next season, the 49ers will rack up a significant amount of mileage.
The five teams that will travel the most distance next season are:
team | Total mileage | Average Miles / RT | time zone |
---|---|---|---|
LA Chargers | 26803 | 2978.11 | 36 |
miami dolphins | 25869 | 2874.33 | 16 |
seattle seahawks | 25797 | 3227.62 | 28 |
new england patriots | 25071 | 2785.66 | 26 |
san francisco 49ers | 24575 | 3071.87 | 28 |
The five teams with the least distance to travel next season are:
team | Total mileage | Average miles/RT | time zone |
atlanta falcons | 12416 | 1552.00 | 14 |
pittsburgh steelers | 12047 | 1338.55 | Ten |
indianapolis colts | 11497 | 1277.44 | 12 |
cincinnati bengals | 10611 | 1179.00 | 12 |
commander of washington | 10550 | 1318.75 | 18 |
Surprisingly, the Chargers, who have the most miles to travel next season (26,803), will travel more than 16,000 miles than the Commanders, who have the least (10,550).
The 49ers are accustomed to traveling far to play games each season, and have taken steps to ease their travel burden, such as staying at the Greenbrier Hotel in West Virginia for back-to-back games on the East Coast. That's a lot, but teams like the Commanders, Bengals, Colts, Steelers and Falcons have at least a slight advantage over clubs with more travel history.
