The second round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs will feature at least two Game 7s. The Indiana Pacers won Game 6 at home against the New York Knicks on Friday night to keep their season alive. Game 7 between the Knicks and Pacers is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, with a spot in the Eastern Conference finals against the Boston Celtics at stake.
The Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves will also play Game 7. The two teams will play again on Sunday for a spot in the Western Conference Finals. The Nuggets won three straight, and the Timberwolves continued their season with a blowout win in Game 6 on Thursday.
The Dallas Mavericks could become the first team to advance to the Western Conference Finals if they can shut out the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday. The Mavs have won three of their last four games against the top-seeded Thunder and can conclude the series with Game 6 at home.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics became the first team to earn a ticket to the conference finals in the 2024 NBA Playoffs. The Celtics defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night with a Game 5 victory. With this win, Boston advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals for the sixth time in the past eight years and third consecutive year.
The postseason field started with 20 teams, but has now been reduced to seven teams. The Warriors, Kings, Hawks, and Bulls were eliminated from the play-in tournament, and the Pelicans, Suns, Clippers, Lakers, Heat, 76ers, Bucks, and Magic were all eliminated in the first round. The Cavs were then eliminated at home in the second round.
