The NBA Playoffs continue on Tuesday, with the Conference Finals beginning with the Indiana Pacers taking on the Boston Celtics in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. On Wednesday, the Minnesota Timberwolves will host the Dallas Mavericks in the opening game of the Western Conference Finals.
The reigning champion Denver Nuggets concluded their postseason run on Sunday. Denver suffered a blowout loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 7 of the second-round series after the Timberwolves overcame a 20-point deficit in the second half. No reigning champion has advanced to the conference finals since the Warriors in 2019.
Earlier Sunday, the Indiana Pacers ended the New York Knicks' season with a Game 7 victory at Madison Square Garden. The Pacers were down 0-2 and 3-2 in the second round against the Knicks, but showed great offensive prowess in knocking a hot-fought Knicks out of the playoffs. The Pacers are now on track to face the top-seeded Boston Celtics.
The Mavericks defeated the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round, advancing to the Western Conference finals for the second time in three years. The Mavs defeated OKC on Saturday night in a heartbreaking Game 6.
Meanwhile, the Celtics have advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals for the sixth time in the last eight seasons. With 64 wins, the Celtics are the top seed in the East and will have home court advantage over the No. 6 seed Pacers.
The postseason field started with 20 teams, but has now been reduced to four teams. The Warriors, Kings, Hawks, and Bulls were eliminated from the play-in tournament, and the Pelicans, Suns, Clippers, Lakers, Heat, 76ers, Bucks, and Magic were all eliminated in the first round. And the Cavs, Thunder, Knicks and Nuggets all lost at home in the second round.
